"The One With all the Ducks"

Name: Hayward Field
Location: Eugene, Oregon
Date: 1919
Architect: Lawrence & Holford
Capacity: 10,500

Generally recognized as the heartland of USA track, Hayward Field is the home to the University of Oregon Ducks. Track enthusiasts far and wide often find that this location is one of few across the country that is a track-only stadium. Holding the stage for nationwide events such as the US Olympic trials, NCAA Championships, and the Prefontaine Classic has made Hayward Field a mecca for athletes and fans alike. Well known Ducks: Steve Prefontaine (long distance), Jordan Hasay (middle distance), Alberto Salazar (long distance), Brian Crouser (thrower) and others have graced this track with their steps and have set the precedent for newer generations to come.

Although originally constructed for football, the field eventually was eventually outfitted with field event areas when Autzen Stadium was built to hold football games. The field was bordered by a 6 lane cinder track, which was replaced in 1970 with an all-weather surface. The entire stadium is lit by 8 light poles which allows for more televised events. The stadium is outfitted with a massive 30x17 foot scoreboard donated by Nike with the project spearheaded by Tinker Hatfield, a former U of O pole-vaulter and graduate of their school of architecture.
